BESt-NL Study

Your childbirth experience matters. Help us to improve maternity care.

Zie de Nederlandse versie van deze pagina

Did you give birth in the Netherlands in the past 5 years? Then your experience can help improve maternity care for other women. By sharing your experience, you contribute to better care.

How your birth went affects how you feel afterwards, both physically and mentally. Whether your birth was positive, difficult, intense, or very different from what you expected: your story matters.

By completing aquestionnaire from the Birth Experience Study (BESt-NL), you help researchers better understand what women need before, during, and after childbirth.

Why participate?

Women do not always recognize themselves in the way maternity care is organized. With this study, we want to change that. We want women to feel heard, supported, and respected.

By participating:

  • you help improve maternity care for future mothers
  • you ensure that the experiences of all women are taken into account
  • you give a voice to what mattered to you around your childbirth

Every experience is valuable.

What do we ask from you?

  • You complete an online questionnaire of about 20 minutes
  • You can pause and continue later
  • Your answers are processed confidentially and anonymously
  • Participants have a chance to win VVV gift vouchers as a thank you for their time

Who can participate?

You can take part if you are 18 years or older and gave birth in the Netherlands in the past 5 years. It does not matter where you gave birth, how your birth went, or whether your experience was positive or less pleasant.

Who conducts this research?

The BESt-NL study is part of an international study on women’s birth experiences worldwide. In the Netherlands, this research is conducted by the Department of Midwifery Science at the UMCG.
