Our research focuses on the interplay between the liver and the hemostatic system. As almost all proteins involved in hemostasis and thrombosis are produced in the liver, patients with liver failure have a tremendously altered hemostatic system. Conversely, increasing evidence suggests that the hemostatic system is actively involved in progression of liver diseases.
Our research aims to improve treatment and prevention of bleeding and thrombosis in patients with liver disease and during liver transplantation. Furthermore, our work explores whether interventions in the hemostatic system may be useful to alleviate disease severity.
Finally, we study mechanisms involved in stimulation of liver regeneration by components of the hemostatic system.
