The UMCG is a member of the General Pension Fund for Public Employees (ABP: Algemeen Burgerlijk Pensioenfonds). Part of your premium is paid by the UMCG and part by yourself. These payments make you eligible for old-age pension (a supplement to the AOW state pension) and possibly surviving dependants’ pension. Once you are registered with the ABP, you will receive a welcome letter with a brochure that sets out the most important information about the various types of pension.
If you transfer to the UMCG from a previous job, it is usually possible to take the old-age pension that you accrued at your previous employer with you. You will have to arrange this value transfer yourself within two months of the start of your appointment.
