The UMCG is a university medical centre, and teaching is therefore one of its core duties. The UMCG provides university degree programmes as well as programmes at higher professional education (HBO) level, specialist medical and nursing training programmes and a variety of supplementary and refresher courses.
University degree programmes
The UMCG provides degree programmes in Medicine, Dentistry and Human Movement Sciences. In addition, the UMCG is also involved in the degree programmes in Life Sciences and Medical Biology. Vocational healthcare training
Nursing training programmes at senior secondary vocational education (MBO) and higher professional education (HBO) level are offered in the form of ‘working-learning paths’. These programmes are provided at the UMCG by the UMCG School of Nursing & Health, which is part of the Wenckebach Institute. This School also provides the theoretical course units in the training programmes for operating theatre assistants, anaesthesiology assistants and hospital hygienists. The degree programme in Oral Hygiene is jointly organized by the UMCG and Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen.
Specialist degree programmes in Nursing
The UMCG School of Nursing & Health of the Wenckebach Institute provides all postgraduate nursing programmes that are nationally accredited by the College Zorg Opleidingen (CZO). Specialist medical training programmes
The UMCG is a training hospital for all recognized programmes training medical, social-medical and clinical-technological specialisms. The UMCG provides training programmes as part of the Onderwijs- en Opleidingsregio Noord en Oost-Nederland (OOR N&O) partnership, in which the UMCG works closely with seven hospitals in the region.
