Job description

The cross-border laboratory for translational HPB oncology focuses on fundamental and translational research (both in vitro and in vivo), based on patient tissue samples, with emphasis on hepatobiliary and pancreatic oncology.

The UMCG acts as a tertiary and quaternary referral center for patients with HPB malignancies, thereby providing (surgical) treatment of all liver-, pancreas- and bile duct malignancies. The collaboration between the UMCG and Oldenburg University has started due to the shared interest of three hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeons in fundamental and translational oncological research. The HPB-laboratory is embedded in the Multidisciplinary Oncology Laboratory (MOL) of the UMCG, which provides all desired facilities for fundamental and translational research. The MOL is formed by laboratories of Medical Oncology, Gynaecologic Oncology and Haematology. The laboratory will work in close collaboration with the Cross-border Institute of Healthcare Systems and Prevention (CBI), which is a joint institution of the University of Groningen/UMCG and the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Oldenburg. The CBI aims to foster cross-border healthcare research.

Since our lab is a collaboration between the universities of Oldenburg and Groningen, we ask you to be flexible and there should be a willingness to work at both areas, with your main stay at the UMCG.

What do we need

  • You will have an essential, leading role in the evolving development of the research laboratory.
  • You will actively participate in the different research projects and have the opportunity to develop your own research.
  • You will be responsible for the daily guidance of (PhD)students who will work on the different projects.
  • Interest and experience in dealing with employees in a hospital setting.

What do we offer

The candidate will get an official position at the UMCG and at the University of Oldenburg and will be stationed mainly at the UMCG. We offer you, depending on education and relevant work experience, a salary of at least € 4,074,- and at most € 5,873,- for full time work (salary level 13-TV-L). We also offer you an international research environment in which you can develop freely. You will be supported in your ambitions in an academic career. At the same time, we value an active culture of discussion and team-oriented cooperation. There is also an attractive environment outside the participating work groups in the laboratory: The University of Oldenburg and UMCG are characterized by a didactic-innovative atmosphere, flexible working hours and family friendliness. Both Oldenburg and Groningen offer an attractive living and working environment.

The Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg is dedicated to increasing the percentage of female employees in the field of science. Therefore, female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. In accordance to § 21 Section 3 NHG, female candidates with equal qualifications will be preferentially considered. Applicants with disabilities will be given preference in case of equal qualification.
