Emerging roles of bile acids in control of intestinal functions

Bile acids (BA) are natural detergents that aid intestinal absorption of fat-soluble nutrients and regulate aspects of metabolism, specific transport processes and immunity  through activation of nuclear and membrane-bound receptors. This review summarizes recent findings in bile acid physiology, focusing on regulatory roles of bile acids in intestinal functions.
