The tenets of precision medicine lie in shifting from the one-fits-for-all to a-fit-for everyone approach. Advancement in molecular and genetic profiling have rapidly fueled biomarker discovery to facilitate diagnosis and prognosis, with early success seen in single gene disorder like monogenic diabetes. In contrast, treatment response prediction remains a challenge, especially in heterogeneous condition like diabetes kidney disease. In this review, we discuss the recent precision medicine approaches with respect to diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment response prediction in patients with diabetic kidney disease.
