Economic Value Creation

Innovative ideas have to be protected. When scientists publish their ideas before the Intelectual Proprerty Rights (IPR) are recorded, no financial incentives can be generated out of it and no (medical) product can be developed for the benefit of the society. To assist in all steps of transferring knowledge generated at the UMCG and RUG to companies and society, by initiating collaborations and licensing opportunities, several initiatives work together.

    Consortium for Valorisation and Entrepreneurship

The Business Generator and R&V are partner in the Consortium for Valorisation and Entrepreneurship (CVO) Groningen. CVO stimulates valorisation and entrepreneurship at three levels: through education and start-up support, through stimulating public private partnerships and through screening and scouting of innovative ideas.

The heart of the Center is formed by three knowledge institutions – Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen, the University Medical Center Groningen and the University of Groningen. Other partners closely involved in the CVO include the city and province of Groningen, NOM, the Rabobank, FrieslandCampina, Triade, Samenwerkende Bedrijven Eemsdelta and over 50 SMEs.
The CVO is for the period 2011-2017 financed by the Groningen partners (€ 10 million), and the valorisation programme of the Ministry of EL&I (€ 5 million).  2011-2016.  With these investments and with the active participation of the SME’s, the CVO will in the next few years give a strong qualitative and quantitative impulse to the regional economy through targeted valorisation (converting knowledge into economic or social value). In addition, a great deal of effort will go into strengthening education related to knowledge-intensive entrepreneurship.
